At the beginning of World War 2, the War Production Board was established as a government agency on January 16, 1942 by executive order of President Roosevelt to regulate materials and fuels. These restrictions included metal, so Monopoly Games shifted from metal to Composite tokens made of compressed paper or sawdust. Colors, shapes and sizes varied with these tokens. These were found mostly in the Dollar Sign and White Box #9 Editions from 1942 to 1946. World War II composite playing pieces.
